South Korean automotive giant Kia has announced that its fully-electric EV6 has achieved a Guinness World Record in the US. The 2022 EV6 crossover successfully travelled 2880.5 miles or 4635.7 Km across the US in the shortest charging time. Launched in August 2021, the EV6 electric crossover has gone on to become a global success in terms of sales.
To prepare for the upcoming journey, the Kia EV6 underwent a charging procedure for 7 hours, 10 minutes, and 1 second. This plug-in time for the EV6 beat the previous record holder, Tesla, by more than 5 hours and 30 minutes. Overall, the journey began from New York and ended in Los Angeles, which took seven days in total.
After attempting the record-breaking run, Kia stated that this achievement marks its leadership in the popularization of EVs. The brand has also stated that it has focussed all its world-class engineering and experience on producing and developing EVs. To further solidify its move to electrification, Kia has focussed on the details, design, quality, technology, and driving dynamics.
The Korean automaker has used its Plan S strategy to produce and develop the EV6, which focuses on electrification. The EV has also managed to achieve product carbon footprint certification and the ‘Carbon Measured’ label from the Carbon Trust. Kia has utilized the E-GMP platform as a base for the EV6, which is also found in Hyundai products.
With its dual motor layout, the top-spec AWD GT variant produces 577 PS of power and 740 Nm of torque. The front of the EV6 sports LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, a sculpted bumper with a slim front grille. The crossover design continues towards the sides of the top-spec EV6, which sports 21-inch front and rear alloy wheels.
Along with a flat roof, the EV also sports curved LED taillights with an integrated light bar and rear spoiler. Additionally, the EV6’s interior gets a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. The driver also gets access to a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display along with rear parking sensors, and steering-mounted controls.
