Kia EV2 concept model – what to expect?

Revealed in the latest images released by Kia, the upcoming EV2 is going to be the replacement model for Kia Picanto globally. It will become the smallest and most affordable Kia electric car when it goes on sale globally next year.

While Kia has not revealed the crucial details regarding it, the images showcase its boxy and sharp design. The key highlights on the front are the new claw-shaped vertical LED lights and the big wheel arches with cubical dual-tone alloy wheels on the side profile.

At the rear, it appears a little bit identical to the newly launched Syros with its vertical LED taillights that are positioned on the extreme corners. The concept model also has a big panoramic roof with fixed glass.

On the inside, the EV2 features a unique seat pattern with a flat floor for the space and comfort of rear passengers. The single bench seat at the rear is also foldable, and it can be slid backward as well as reclined like Syros for more space.

Additionally, the dashboard design is simplistic, with a single connected screen that embeds the infotainment and instrument console. Apart from that, the steering wheel is a D-cut unit that has a unique tilted design on the top and lower end.

Kia EV2 battery and range

As of now, Kia has not revealed the powertrain details, but we can safely assume that it will most likely use the same E-GMP architecture as shared on the Kia EV3 and EV4. This means that it will possibly get two battery options – a 58.3 kWh and an 81.4 kWh.

While the latter choice is dicey, the 58.3 kWh battery has a better chance to get featured with a 201 bhp front axle-mounted electric motor. The maximum range that this battery pack delivers on the Kia EV3 is 434 km per charge.

The current status update from Kia says that the EV2 will make its debut globally in 2026. The production version will have differences in design from the concept car.

As of now, its India launch details are unknown, but we are hopeful that Kia will bring it to the domestic market later next year.

Our verdict

Kia’s electric cars are in popular demand globally. Models like EV5 and EV6 are doing exceptionally well in markets like South Asia and Europe. Hence, the EV2 appears to be a good idea as it will feature the latest tech, advanced features, and passenger comfort at a relatively lower price than its siblings.
