Kia recently revealed the Carens MPV in the Indian market. The brand positions the MPV as an RV (Recreational Vehicle) and boasts that the Carens will be the perfect vehicle for Indian families. The brand also claims that the Carens also fulfils the “unmet needs of modern Indian families.” The three-row car offers 6 or 7 seats and competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo and Hyundai Alcazar. Kia has not announced the pricing of the Carens MPV in the Indian market yet. However, the Carens are expected to be positioned under the Alcazar and may come with a price tag of around the INR 15 lakh mark. The Hyundai Alcazar, on the other hand, starts at the price of INR 16.30 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to INR 20.15 lakh ex-showroom.
Kia, at the, unveil, announced that the Carens will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The MPV will also sport both manual and automatic transmission options. Speculation is that the Carens will come with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that makes 115 Hp of power and 144 Nm of torque. The car is also likely to come with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 140 Hp of power and 242 Nm of torque. The brand is likely to offer a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
The Carens will also come with a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that makes 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel motor will come with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. The Alcazar comes with a 2.0-litre Mpi petrol engine that produces 159 Hp of power and 191 Nm of torque. The brand also offers a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The brand offers both engines with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Kia Carens will measure 4540mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1700mm in height and come with a wheelbase of 2780mm. The MPV will come with a ground clearance of 195mm. The Carens will also sport 16-inch alloy wheels. The Hyundai Alcazar measures 4500mm in length, 1790mm in width, 1675mm in height, 2760mm of wheelbase. The Alcazar comes with a ground clearance of 200mm and comes with 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Kia Carens comes with features such as 10.25-inch Audio Video Navigation Telematics (AVNT) system, smart air-conditioning, LED lights, ventilated front seats, smartphone trays, Multi Drive Modes – Eco, Normal and Sport etc. The Carens also comes with 6 airbags as standard. The brand also offers electronic stability control, hill assist control, tyre pressure monitoring system etc.
The Alcazar comes with Triple-LED projector headlamps, 10.25-inch Multi-Display Digital Cluster instruments and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The car also gets Bose Premium Sound System, ventilated, driver and passenger seats, Panoramic Sunroof and seatback tables with tablet holder. The Alcazar also features 6 Airbags, a Blind View Monitor, a 360-degree view monitor and Front & Rear Parking Sensors.
