Korean automotive giant Kia has announced the complete details of its new Carens MPV introduced for the Indian market. Kia premiered the new Carens MPV in India on 16th December 2021 and will open bookings on January 14th, 2022. Kia India states that it will offer the new 3-row recreational vehicle in 5 trims with multiple powertrains and features.
These trims include Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus which will feature 6 airbags as standard. The Carens also features a Large Interior Cabin Space and the longest wheelbase of any vehicle in its class. Kia India will offer the Carens in 6 or 7-seater options and will directly compete with the Hyundai Alcazar.
Kia India states that the Carens sports a design that is the perfect combination of an MPV and an SUV. Bringing the practicality of a 3-row MPV and the rugged sportiness of an SUV, the Carens focuses on Indian customers. Kia India also stated that the Carens will fulfill the evolving needs of extended Indian families and individuals alike.
Using Kia’s new Opposites United design philosophy, the Carens features star map LED DRLs and LED headlamps at the front. Additionally, the front fascia of the MPV also includes a knurled grille applique and a mesh on the lower grille. Towards the side, the Carens boasts its SUV-inspired design with rounded wheel arches and large dual-tone alloy wheels.
Along with a progressive roofline and a chiseled tail section, the rear of the Carens features star-map-themed LED tailights. Kia has also equipped a unique chrome-paneling on the rear bumper of the Carens and offers 8 color options. These include Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey, Glacial White Pearl, and Clear White.
Kia India has announced that it will offer 3 engine options along with 3 gearboxes for the Carens MPV. The first petrol engine option on offer is the 1.5-liter, Smartream four-cylinder engine with 115 PS and 144 Nm. The automaker will also offer a 1.4-liter, Smartstream Gdi, turbo-petrol motor which produces 140 PS and 242 Nm. Finally, Kia India will also offer a 1.5-liter, CRDi VGT, four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 115 PS and 250 Nm.
For the naturally-aspirated, 1.5-liter petrol motor, Kia will exclusively offer a 6-speed manual transmission with no automatic option. Meanwhile, Kia will offer a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT gearbox with paddle shifters for the 1.4-liter, turbo-petrol. Finally, Kia India will offer a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed, torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.5-liter, diesel. The Carens measures 4540mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1708mm in height, and sports an overall wheelbase of 2780mm.
Kia India announced that it will offer a Robust 10 Hi-safety package as standard for all 5 trims of the Carens. These include safety features such as ESC, VSM, HAC, DBC, ABS, BAS, All-wheel disc brakes, and Rear Parking Sensors. Additionally, Kia India will offer a Highline Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) along with 16-inch, dual-tone Crystal Cut alloy wheels. For the driver and passengers, Kia India has equipped the Carens with Ventilated Front Seats and a Skylight Sunroof.
The driver can also access the Multi Drive Modes- Sport, Eco, and Normal on offer with 64-color Ambient Mood Lighting. Kia has equipped the Carens with segment-first features such as 66 connected car features thanks to the next-gen Kia Connect. These also include the 10.25-inch, HD Touchscreen Navigation system and the BOSE Premium Sound System with 8 speakers. Kia India has also ensured to equip the Carens with a Smart Pure Air Purifier with Virus and Bacteria Protection.
The Carens sports a “One Touch Easy Electric Tumble” 2nd Row Seat and Roof-mounted, 2nd and 3rd row AC vents. Additionally, the Carens interior also sports a Cooling function for the Smartphone wireless charger and the 1st row Cup Holders. Enhancing the convenience of passengers is the Retractable Seat Back Table with a Cup Holder and a Gadget Mount. Other features of the Carens include a Sliding Type Under Seat Tray with an easy-push Retractable Cup Holder.
