Kia is likely to be working on an all-electric version of the Carens, which could soon arrive in the Indian market. According to reports, the brand is currently working on the prototype version of the Carens EV, and a test mule of the car has been spotted driving in India. The spy shots of the test mule also reveal that the Kia Carens EV is likely to come with its own unique styling which will help it differentiate from the ICE-powered Carens which is also due for an update.
The Carens EV is likely to carry over its platform from the ICE powered Carens but, the design elements are likely to be EV specific. This leads us to believe that the Carens EV is likely to come with a closed front grille and new headlamp signatures. Also, the Carens EV is likely to come with updated tail section that will help it differentiate from the standard car.
Reports also reveal that the front of the Caren EV is likely to draw inspiration from the Kia EV9 electric SUV which is going to make its debut in the Indian market on the 3rd of October 2024. The front and rear bumpers of the Carens EV are also likely to be reprofiled to give the electric car a unique appearance. Also, the alloy wheels design on the Kia Carens EV is likely to be similar to the Kia EV3 and EV5 which are available abroad, reveal sources.
In the powertrain department, the Kia Carens EV is likely to share its electric motor with the entry-level Hyundai Kona Electric. It is also being speculated that the same powertrain will be shared with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The Creta EV is also likely to make its debut in the Indian market soon. The front mounted electric motor is likely to be paired to a 45 kWh battery pack, which is likely to offer a range of around 350-400 km on a single charge.
In terms of competition, the Carens EV is likely to rival the likes of the BYD eMax7 which will soon be launched in the Indian market.
