Kia India has announced that the brand has achieved a 10.7% market share in the Indian market. The brand also boasts of being the 4th most sold car brand in the country. The announcement comes as the brand reports its sales numbers for May 2021.
Kia has registered 6,627 units on the sub-compact SUV, the Kia Sonet, in May 2021. The brand reveals that the high amount of sales makes Sonet the segment leader in May and the highest contributor to the company’s overall sales. Following the Kia, Sonet is the Kia Seltos SUV, which has sold 4,277 mid-size SUVs.
The brand also revealed that both the Sonet and Seltos SUVs are among the top 10 vehicles sold in the Indian market in May 2021. Both Kia Sonet and Seltos have also achieved cumulative sales of 2.67 lakh vehicles this month. Kia India achieved this in just 22 months of the beginning of sales in the Indian market.
Kia in April 2021, sold 7,724 units of the Sonet and 8,086 units of the Kia Seltos SUV. The brand also sold 301 units of the luxury MPV Kia Carnival. In April 2021, Kia was in the top 5 most sold car brands in India. The brand also notes that the sales figures come despite the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kia also expects that the pent-up demand in the personal mobility sector will help the brand and the entire industry recover from the challenging environment of the lockdown.
Kia dropped the Motors from Kia Motors India, changing its name to Kia India in the Indian market. The new name also comes with a new Kia logo that debuted in South Korea at the beginning of 2021. The new logo also comes with a ‘Movement that Inspires’ tagline and plans for a mobility revolution in India in the future.
With the new corporate logo, Kia also launched the new 2021 Sonet compact SUV in the Indian market at 6.79 lakh ex-showroom. The new Sonet comes with a unique stylised KIA logo and new features on the interiors, and feature extension to lower variants. The 2021 Kia Seltos comes with a starting price tag of INR 9.95 lakh ex-showroom. The SUV now comes with a stylised KIA logo and iMT gearbox option on the 1.5 Petrol HTK+ variant. The brand has also extended more safety features to the lower-spec variants as part of the 2021 upgrade.
