The Indian market has never really experienced a proper affordable maxi-scooter. However, that is about to change soon. Keeway is bringing its Vieste 300 maxi-scooter to India soon. Interested customers can pre-book the scooter by paying INR 10,000. On the other hand, we have the Yamaha Aerox 155. The Aerox’s engine is almost half of the Vieste’s. However, India is devoid of proper maxi-scooters. Hence, Aerox 155 is the only product that comes close to a maxi-scooter. In this specification comparison, we pin the Keeway Vieste 300 and Yamaha Aerox 155 to see if the Japanese is all you need or if it makes sense for you to go the Hungarian way.
As of now, Keeway has not announced the price tag for the Vieste 300. However, given the engine specification and performance, we expect a premium figure. The Keeway Vieste 300 is available in just one variant. However, it is available in three colour shades – Matte Black, Matter Blue and Matte White.
On the other hand, the Yamaha Aerox 155 costs INR 1,36,800 (ex-showroom). Same as Vieste 300, Aerox also comes only in a single variant. Customers have three colours to choose from – Metallic Black, Racing Blue and Grey Vermillion. Additionally, the Racing Blue colour of the Aerox features blue-coloured alloy wheels. Also, the Grey Vermillion colour gets contrasting red-coloured alloy wheels. There was also a Yamaha Monster Energy MotoGP edition which has now been discontinued.
The Keeway Vieste 300 gets a 278cc liquid-cooled 4-valve single-cylinder engine. It produces 18.7 HP at 6500 rpm and 22 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. The scooter uses a Continental Belt Drive System. We will get to know additional details closer to the scooter’s launch.
For Yamaha Aerox, it uses a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor. The performance figure reads as 15 PS at 8000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. The engine also benefits from an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The VVA provides a broader torque spread for better rideability.
The Keeway Vieste 300’s suspension hardware consists of telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic shocks at the rear. The braking setup uses a 240mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS.
The chassis for Aerox 155 supports telescopic forks at the front. At the rear, the Aerox features motorcycle-type twin shock absorbers. Braking power comes from a 230mm disc at the front and a drum at the rear. Also, unlike the Vieste 300, the Aerox gets a single-channel ABS.
The Keeway Vieste 300 is a proper maxi-scooter in terms of size. It measures 2,230mm in length, 920mm in width and 1,090mm in height. At 1,530mm, it also has a long wheelbase. Tackling Indian road conditions won’t be an issue thanks to the 160mm ground clearance. To go with its maxi-scooter positioning, it also gets a large 12-litre fuel tank.
On the other hand, the Yamaha Aerox 155, on paper, seems way smaller. The Aerox measures 1,980mm in length, 700mm in width and 1,150mm in height. The wheelbase, at 1,350mm, is also much smaller in comparison. The ground clearance of the Aerox 155 is 145mm. Interestingly, the fuel tank capacity, at 5.5-litre, is roughly half of the Vieste 300’s.
Both the scooters are a top pick for the customers as per today’s standard. The Keeway Vieste 300, the more premium option, gets LED projector headlights, DRLs, taillights, and indicators. The all-digital instrument cluster gives all the necessary riding related statistics like an engine temperature gauge, ambient temperature gauge, trip metre, maintenance indicator and fuel gauge.
Living up to the Yamaha standard, Aerox 155 also gets a host of exciting features. The highlighting ones include an LED headlight and taillight, a small front pocket with USB charging, an external fuel lid, and a 5.8-inch instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. Additionally, the Aerox 155 also features the Automatic Stop & Start system for better fuel efficiency.
