Kawasaki is recalling the W800 modern-classic motorcycle in the North American markets. The recall is for a faulty horn that may not sound when expected. According to the NHTSA, the horn malfunction may lead to an accident, in the case when the rider needs to alert any other road user of an imminent impact. It is important to note that no accident, damage, crash, injury or death has been recorded pertaining to this recall.
According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), specific models of the Kawasaki W800 are believed to be affected by the recall. These include motorcycles produced between January 28, 2019, and February 15, 2022. Also, affected VIN range between JKBEJCC19KA000011 and JKBEJCC1XLA003193, and an additional range between JKBEJCD15LA000006 and JKBEJCD11NA004492. In all, 1,660 motorcycles are under recall. The engine vibration within specific RPM ranges may damage the horn harness, which could lead to the horn failure.
Kawasaki will be replacing the horn, the horn harness and horn mounting bracket on the affected motorcycles. Kawasaki will be replacing the parts on the affected motorcycle free of charge. According to the brand, the colour of both the horn harness and the horn bracket are now distinguishable as Kawasaki has already corrected to problem on the production line since February 2022. Customers may contact KMC customer service at 1-866-802-9381. KMC’s number for this recall is MC22-03. Kawasaki estimates that only 1% vehicles out of the total recall number may be affected by the problem.
Kawasaki retails the W800 modern-classic motorcycle in the Indian market with a price tag of INR 7.33 lakh ex-showroom. The motorcycle is available in India only in a Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Matte Graphite Grey colour option. Powering the W800 is a BS6 compliant 773cc twin-cylinder engine. The air-cooled motor produces 50.2 Bhp of power and 62.9 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
Kawasaki has not yet announced any recall for the W800 in the Indian market.
