Kawasaki launched the W800 modern classic motorcycle last year with a BS6 compliant engine at the price of INR 7.99 lakh ex-showroom but now the brand has revised its price list and slashed its price by INR 1 lakh making the 2020 Kawasaki W800 available at INR 6.99 lakh ex-showroom.
The INR 1 lakh price cut is likely to boost the bike’s sales figures and enable it to compete with its direct rival the Triumph Bonneville T100 priced at INR 8.87 lakh ex-showroom but with its new price, the Kawasaki W800 will also compete against with the Triumph Street Twin priced at INR 7.45 lakh ex-showroom.
In terms of styling and equipment, the Kawasaki W800 blends retro styling with modern touches such as rounded LED headlamps with a convex lens and chrome headlight ring, a large curved fuel tank that reverberates with classic motorcycles, rounded dual-pot instrumentation console with analogue speedometer and tachometer along with an LCD multi-information display and multiple telltale lights that bring modernity to tradition.
The 2020 Kawasaki W800 is powered by a BS6 compliant 773cc air-cooled vertically arranged parallel-twin cylinder 4-stroke 8-valve SOHC fuel-injected engine that produces 52 PS of power and 63 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed return type gearbox with a back-torque limiting assist & slipper clutch. The engine is mounted on a high-tensile steel double-cradle chassis that rides on the conventional hydraulic telescopic front fork and dual coil spring hydraulic rear shock absorbers.
Braking duties are handled by a single 320mm disc on the front paired to a twin-piston hydraulic calliper and a single 270mm disc with a twin-piston hydraulic calliper on the rear. The W800 comes with 18-inch spoked wheel rims shod in 100/90 front and 130/80 rear tyres. The W800 features 130mm of ground clearance and an approachable 770mm seat height. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres and weighs 224 kg at the kerb.
