Kawasaki Versys-X 300 continues road testing in India

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Kawasaki could be planning to bring back the Versys-X 300 back to the Indian market. The brand is currently road testing the model under camouflage which leads us to believe that the motorcycle could be launched here in the near future.

Kawasaki Testing Versys-X 300

In the past, the test mule had a large saree guard and black camouflage covers which led us to believe that the test mule could be India-specific. However, this time around the Versys-X 300 test mule is seen with grey camouflage and pannier boxes on the sides which could be attached to carry testing equipment. But, the saree guard appears to be missing this time around and it could only been done to accommodate the boxes with testing equipment and does not necessarily warrant that it could be a model for export.

Will it be Made in India?

However, we speculate that Kawasaki could localise the Versys-X 300 in India to keep its price competitive as well as produce the bike for exports to the international markets. The mule has been spotted near Ooty, Tamil Nadu and appears similar to the international model available abroad.

If Kawasaki localises the Versys-X 300 the motorcycle is likely to come under the INR 4 lakh mark. When the Versys-X 300 was on sale in India, in the past, the motorcycle came with a price tag of more than INR 4.5 lakh ex-showroom. At the time Kawasaki was importing the motorcycle via the Completely Built Up (CBU) route and hence the steep pricing.

Powertrain and Features

Powering the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is a parallel-twin cylinder 300cc liquid-cooled engine similar to the Ninja 300. The engine produces 39 BHP of power and 26 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. In addition to this, the Versys-X 300 also comes with semi-digital instruments cluster, long travel suspension, disc brakes with ABS etc.
