Kawasaki could be planning to launch the KLX 230 S dual sport motorcycle in the Indian market soon. The brand has been testing the KLX 230 S under camouflage covers before and reports reveal that dealers have unofficially started to accept bookings on the KLX 230 S. While, the KLX 230 S is already on sale in the international market, the brand is not likely to bring the motorcycle via the expensive CBU route, but it is likely come to India via the CKD route and assembled here using locally sourced parts.
In the past a test mule of the Kawasaki KLX 230 S was seen testing on Indian roads with a front number plate and a saree guard. Apart for the India-specific changes the KLX 230 S is likely to remain similar to the international spec bike. Which means, the KLX 230 S is likely to come with a high-mount front fender, a small fuel tank, a long single piece seat, and a sharp tail section. The motorcycle is also likely to come with a long travel suspension on the front and rear as well as a wide and upright handlebar.
Powering the Kawasaki KLX 230 S is likely to be a 233cc single-cylinder air-cooled 2-valve four-stroke engine that produces around 20 Bhp of power and 18 Nm of torque. The engine is likely to come with a 6-speed gearbox with short ratios, to help the rider sprint quickly on off-road terrains. Also, the KLX is likely to come with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup, shod in dual sport tyres. The motorcycle is also lily to be quite light with a kerb weight of just 130 kgs.
Upon launch, which is likely to be the 17th of October 2024, the Kawasaki KLX 230 S will become Team Green’s 3rd localized product in India after the Ninja 300 and the W175 and will compete with the Hero MotoCorp Xpulse 200 4v Rally in the Indian market.
