The next-generation Jeep Wrangler has been spotted testing in India in both the three-door and five-door variants and is expected to be launched by the end of August this year. However, according to a media report, the range-topping off-road-spec model known as the Wrangler Rubicon is likely to be dubbed ‘Moab’ in India. In the international market, the Wrangler Moab variant sets itself apart only cosmetically from the Wrangler Rubicon. The differences are in the alloy wheels which are finished in black, off-road-spec tyres and a ‘Moab’ decal on the side of the bonnet.
In terms of the powertrain, the Jeep Wrangler in the international market comes with both petrol and diesel options such as a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol producing 270 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque coupled to an 8-speed automatic, a 3.6-litre 24-valve V 6-cylinder Pentastar petrol engine with 285 BHP of power and 353 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 8-speed automatic and in India, the SUV is likely to come with the 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel producing 197 BHP of power and 488 Nm of torque.
International-spec Jeep Wrangler Rubicon features a 4-wheel-drive system with a 4:1 Rock-Trac HD transfer case with locking differentials as standard. Other standard features include performance suspension, rock rails, fuel tank skid plate and a transfer case skid plate.
Interiors of the international-spec Wrangler Rubicon feature a twin-dial analogue tachometer and speedometer with a central digital colour MID which displays real-time transfer case status and other statistics. The option of 7-inch and 8.4-inch on the Intuitive touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, leather trim seats and dual-zone air-conditioning system.
On the exterior, the Jeep Wrangler Moab is expected to come in the 3-door and 5-door body and is likely to feature Jeep’s trademark 7-slated grille design with rounded LED headlight units, front fender mounted LED daytime running lights, etc.
The new Wrangler is based in the lighter JL platform as compared to the current SUVs JK platform. It enhances the SUV overall off-road ability by improving the approach and departure angle and water wading capabilities to up to 30-inches and comes with a ground clearance of 227mm. The new generation Jeep Wrangler is expected to be priced around INR 65 lakh.
