Jeep wants to launch Hyundai Creta rival in India

American SUV specialist Jeep could be planning to introduce a new sub-INR 20 Lakh SUV in the Indian market. Currently, the brand has its vehicle positioned in the INR 25 lakh plus segment. But the volume market in the INR 17-20 law is quite booming and hence the brand could be planning to capitalize this market. According to a media report, the MD and CEO of Stellantis India the brand is planning to gain presence in this segment. However, the SUV is not likely to be India-specific but also for the world.

Jeep DNA at a Competitive price

Reports suggest that the new project is likely to be based on the Citroen Compact Modular Platform which underpins the C3 range of vehicles in the Indian market. In addition to this, the platform also underpins the Basalt Coupe SUV that was recently launched in India. However, the Citroen’s range of cars come with a front wheel driven powertrain, the Jeep SUV based on the same platform is likely to come with 4×4 or AWD drivetrain technology, retaining the Jeep characteristics.

Competition

This is likely to help the brand retain its DNA and hold on to the Jeep fanbase here in the Indian market. Also, the new Jeep SUV is likely to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta which is quite popular in its segment. But with 4×4 or AWD the Jeep SUV is likely to have an upper hand in the segment.  In addition to this, the Jeep SUV is also likely to come with a number of features to keep it relatable to the market and not be another lifestyle SUV with just off-road capabilities.

While the Jeep SUV is likely to be made in India, the brand is also likely to export the SUV to other markets especially ASEAN.
