Jeep Renegade SUV coming to India in 2017

Reports on the internet suggest that the Fiat Group could launch the Jeep Renegade SUV in India by 2017.

Sharing compact car platforms with Fiat, the Renegade SUV is expected to be locally manufactured at the Ranjangaon facility. This would make the Jeep brand more affordable, and hence, generate more volumes.

The Renegade although looks compact, is not a sub-4 metre SUV. It is slightly longer and will be comparable to the likes of the Hyundai ix25. Exterior profile is a no-nonsense built for the purpose kind of design which looks bold and butch. The typical Jeep front grille with vertical slats, round headlamps flat bonnet give the Renegade a very rugged look. The car features body cladding all around and also gets roof rails. Front and rear bumpers get blackened lower sections to prevent paint scratching while going off-road. The car looks off-road friendly by default, and hence, Fiat doesn’t mount the spare wheel on the tail gate to prove a point.

Interiors are compact and will feature a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster with MID, automatic climate control, infotainment screen + head unit, grab rail on the dashboard for the front passenger, etc.

It cannot be discussed as to which engine would make it to the Jeep Renegade here in India. However, to keep the costs low, it would be a motor which will be shared with other Fiat cars in India by 2017. Expect 4×4 to make it as an option on the higher end variants, to justify the brand image.
