Jeep India has announced the name of the brand’s upcoming 7-seater SUV. The brand has revealed that the new SUV will be christened – Meridian. The company also released a few pictures of the new Jeep Meridian wrapped in a special camouflage. The special camouflage showcases the iconic aspects of each state’s culture, legacy, and diversity of the country. The wrap also coincides with the route that the Meridian is taking while under test, and the brand reveals that the route lies on the Meridian 77-degree East passing through India.
Jeep has announced that the Meridian nomenclature has been inspired by the line that passes through the length of India. This meridian 77-degree connects some of the most beautiful states and cultures in the country. Furthermore, the brand also reveals that a list of 70 different names was studied, including a few global Jeep names, before finalising the Meridian moniker. But, because the Jeep Meridian is completely ‘Made in India’, the brand needed a name with strong relevance to the market.
While naming a vehicle is the first step that draws inspiration from the vastness and diversity of India. However, the brand also revealed that it is testing the SUV from Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K). The development mule took the route through the Meridian 77-degree East, showcasing an intensive performance. The brand reveals that the Meridian is specifically developed for Indian customers.
Jeep reveals that the Meridian traversed across Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, New Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The SUV navigated through more than 5,000 km across the country, testing its performance, on various parameters. These parameters included the build quality, engineering, and capability of the Meridian. The landmarks also include India Gate from Delhi, the camel of Rajasthan, the tiger of Madhya Pradesh, the flag of Maharashtra, the elephant of Karnataka, the coconut tree of Kerala, among others.
Jeep has revealed that the Meridian will make its debut in the Indian market in mid-2022. The brand also revealed that the specifications
and pricing would be announced closer to launch. The brand claims that the Jeep Meridian is set to become the most sophisticated and capable 7-seater SUVs that is ‘Made in India’.
