Fiat will finally launch the Jeep brand in India in 2015.
For starters, Jeep will bring down the flagship Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler SUVs to India. Both these cars will be brought to India via the CBU route, hence, expect pricing to be on the higher side. However, since they will be full imports, expect top of the line variants to make it to the Indian shore.
Expected pricing for the Grand Cherokee could be around Rs. 55 lakh and the Wrangler around Rs. 45 – 50 lakh (on-road).
Once launched, the Jeepn brand will have a tough fight from the more established premium players such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo here in India. Jeep offers customisation options internationally, but it is difficult for all of that to make it to our market.
Amongst all other bells and whistles, the most important offering on the Jeep brand will be the 4×4.
Both the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee could be powered by a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine producing power and torque figures in the range of 285 BHP and 353 Nm.
Will the Jeep brand help change Fiat’s fortunes in India?
