Multinational automotive manufacturing corporation, Stellantis plans to launch 21 electrified vehicles across brands under its umbrella. This includes Alfa Romeo, DS Automobiles, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Maserati, Open/Vauxhall, Peugeot and Jeep. The electrified models will be a mix of PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle) and BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle).
According to the brand’s H1 2021 Results, Jeep will get the first series-production fully electric vehicle in 2023. But as of now, only the timeline has been revealed, and no further details of the new electric Jeep are available. However, speculations are that the new model will be an electric version of the Jeep Wrangler. Or it could even be a compact electric SUV.
In the recent past, Jeep revealed the Wrangler Magneto Concept at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari. The SUV features the timeless design from the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon paired with a bespoke axial flux electric motor. The unique powertrain also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox with a clutch system similar to an internal combustion engine.
The power unit is comparable to the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine that makes 285 Hp of power. The electric powertrain on the Magneto Concept produces 370 Nm of demand and can operate at 6,000 RPMs. Jeep also uses an 800V architecture with a 70 kWh battery pack, but performance figures are still scarce.
Market speculations also suggest that Jeep could introduce a compact electric SUV that will slot below the Jeep Renegade. While Jeep recently revealed the new STLA architecture, it will not debut till 2026. This leads us to believe that the brand will use the e-CMP platform combined with e-axle technology to give the compact electric SUV 4×4 drivetrain capability. Previous reports suggest that the boffins at Jeep have already cracked the problem by replacing the mechanical 4X4 system with e-motors. The cost-efficient e-CMP will also help Jeep position the electric SUV at a competitive price.
