January 2021 Mahindra cars & tractor sales report

Mahindra & Mahindra registered an overall automobile sales of 39,149 units of vehicles in January 2021 against 52,546 units sold in January 2020. The automobiles sales include (passenger vehicles+ commercial vehicles+ exports). In the passenger vehicle segment, Mahindra sold 20,634 units of utility vehicles, vans and cars in the month of January 2021 against 19,797 units sold in January 2020 which is a growth of 4%. 

The passenger vehicle segment is bifurcated into Utility Vehicles and Cars+Vans and out of the total 20,634 units, the brand sold 20,498 units in the Utility Vehicles segment and 136 units of Cars and Vans. In January 2020, Mahindra sold 19,455 units of utility vehicles and 342 units of cars and vans which is a change of 5% and -60% respectively. 

While the passenger segment shows 4% improvement Month-on-Month the Year-To-Date shows a decline of 28% 125,125 units sold Y-T-D in 2020-21 against 172,656 units sold in 2019-20. The Utility Vehicle segment contributed -25% in sales volume Y-T-D with 123507 units sold in FY2021 against 165619 units sold in FY2020, the cars & vans segment contributed -77% with 1,618 units sold in FY2021 against 7,037 units sold in FY2020. 

The brand also sold 2841 units of 3-wheelers including electric 3-wheelers in January 2021 against 8137 units sold in January 2020, which is a decline in sales by 65%. However, overall exports for the month of January 2021 were at 2,286 vehicles against 1,761 units in January 2020, pegging 30% growth. 

In the Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra sold 33,562 units in the domestic market in January 2021 against 22,329 units sold during January 2020. The brand also exported 1,216 units against 787 units in January securing a total of 50% growth in the segment. Year-To-Date, 286,846 units were sold in FY21 against 256,606 in FY20 showing a growth of 12% in the domestic market while exports declined by 7% with 8,536 units sold in FY21 against 9,135 sold in FY2020. Cumulatively, 295,382 units were sold in FY21 with a total growth of 11.2% as compared to 265,741 units sold in FY20. 

While Mahindra’s all-new Thar has been doing wonder keeping both the sales department as well as production busy with close to 10 months of waiting on certain variants in certain markets, the brand has just launched the new XUV300 AutoSHIFT Petrol with BlueSense Plus Connected features in the Indian market.
