Jaguar XE could be locally assembled in India

Jaguar will launch the new XE sedan in India by 2016. The 3-series rival, XE is the smallest sedan for the Jaguar brand. Now, the company is planning local assembly of the XE to price it competitively.

Reports suggest that JLR could begin local assembly of the XE from the end of 2015 or early 2016. The company plans to sell a minimum of 1,300 – 1,400 units of the XE every month in India, which is a rather optimistic number. CKD kits will also help the company get a lower import duty of 60% which will result in a lower price tag. Arch rivals Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, all of them locally assemble the C-Class, 3 Series and the A4.

The XE will also be the cheapest Jaguar in India in a price range of ~ Rs. 30 lakh.

The XE should give the company a much needed sales boost since it is running in a distant 4th position in the luxury car segment with just 2,913 units sold in 2013.

Currently, JLR locally assembles the Land Rover Freelander, Jaguar XF & Jaguar XJ at their Pune facility.
