Is this the electric Hyundai Exter on test?

Looks like Hyundai is already working on an electric version of the Exter. Spy images of what appears to be an electric Exter have surfaced online.

The Exter EV will take on the likes of the Tata Punch EV which is expected to arrive in our market in the near future. As such, Hyundai is already working on the micro SUV’s EV version to launch it in time.

The Exter is Hyundai’s newest car on the market and went on sale on 10 July 2023. The number of pre-bookings stood at 10,000.

Hyundai Exter EV : More Details

The upcoming Exter EV will be the first mass market EV from the Korean brand. Currently, it sells the Kona EV and the Ioniq 5 electric vehicles in India. These are priced in the premium segment.

In terms of battery size and range, we can expect Hyundai to offer a 25-30 kWh battery pack. This could give the car a range of 300 km or so on a full charge.

Meanwhile rivals Citroen eC3 and Tata Tiago offer 320 km and 250-315 km respectively on a full charge. Then we also have the Comet EV with a 230 km range. Tata’s Punch is likely to offer a similar range.

Hyundai Exter Expected Features

Like the ICE variant, the EV version could get similar features. As the car is based on the Aura and the Grand i10, the electric Exter might get the same interiors. This means, a familiar dashboard layout, seating configuration and features.

That said, Hyundai could offer EV-specific updates like a blanked out grille, new badging and updates on the insides.

Already, the Exter comes with an electric sunroof, dashcam, rear AC vents, footwell lighting, wireless phone charger and safety systems like 6-airbags standard, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist control, rear view camera, electronic stability control and vehicle stability management.
