A heavily camouflaged test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has been spotted on Indian roads, sparking excitement and curiosity among car enthusiasts. The test mule is believed to be the upcoming 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, codenamed Y17.
The 7-seater Grand Vitara is expected to rival popular models like the Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Carens. While the overall design of the prototype looks similar to the existing Grand Vitara, it has a slightly longer rear overhang to accommodate a third row of seats.
Although the test mule is heavily camouflaged, some design elements are visible. The front fascia appears to be inspired by the Maruti eVitara, featuring LED DRLs and a new bumper design. The interior is expected to have a different dashboard layout with a large, free-standing touchscreen.
The 7-seater Grand Vitara will likely be powered by the same engines as the standard 5-seater version. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers two engine options to cater to different driving preferences. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 91.18 bhp at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 122 Nm at 4400-4800 rpm. Additionally, there is a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine with similar power figures, providing 91.18 bhp at 5500 rpm and 122 Nm of torque at 4400-4800 rpm.
The introduction of a 7-seater Grand Vitara is a strategic move by Maruti Suzuki to capture a larger share of the SUV market. With more families and larger groups looking for spacious and comfortable vehicles, the 7-seater variant is expected to be a hit.
The road testing of the 7-seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has generated a lot of buzz. Car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting more details and hoping for a launch soon. If the rumors are true, the Grand Vitara Y17 could be a game-changer in the SUV segment.
