India’s Safest! Tata Nexon Vs. Mahindra XUV300 Specification Comparison

In 2018, Tata Nexon was awarded the full 5-star rating for safety by Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) which set a new benchmark in the compact SUV segment. Fast forward to 2020, Mahindra XUV300 was assessed by the safety program and became the second car after the Tata Nexon to receive the coveted 5-star for safety, but the combined score was higher than the Nexon and it also received a solid 4-star for Child Protection a first for an Indian car. Let us compare both these 5-star rated compact SUVs and check-out their technical specifications.

Safety:

The 5-star rated Tata Nexon receives 16.06 points out of 17 points, scoring a full 5 stars for adult safety and 25 points out of 49 points for child safety, receiving 3-stars for child safety. The tests showed that the car provided good protection to the head, neck and knee while adequate protection to the torso and shin area. The body shell was also rated as stable and it could undergo further loadings. The Nexon tested was equipped with Driver and Passenger front airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, seatbelt reminder, 4-channel ABS and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages. 

The Mahindra XUV300 has also received Global NCAP’s ‘Safer Choice’ award for the safest car in India on top of the 5-star award. The Mahindra XUV300 received 16.42 points out of 17 points for adult safety scoring a full 5-star for adult safety and 37.44 points out of 49 points for child safety offering 4-star protection. The test results show that the car offered good protection to the head, neck, knee and shin of both the driver and passenger while the driver’s torso showed adequate protection the passenger gets good protection on the torso. The XUV300 was equipped with driver and passenger front airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, seatbelt reminder, 4-channel ABS and ISOFIX child-seat anchorage system.

Safety Equipment: 

The Tata Nexon is equipped with a fortified cabin with a high-strength steel structure that absorbs impact energy, driver and co-driver airbags as standard safety, anti-lock braking system and electronic brake-force distribution (ABS+EBD) as standard, height-adjustable seatbelts with Pre-tensioner, Load-limiter & Crash-locking tongue, ultrasonic sensors with the rear camera feed along with standard Electronic Stability Program and Electronic Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Hold Control, Electronic Brake Pre-fill, Brake Disc Wiping. 

The Mahindra XUV300 features dual front airbags as standard, 7 Airbags which includes the front, side, curtain area, and knee area of the driver as optional, disc brakes on all 4 wheels, ABS & EBD as standard across all variants, Corner Braking Control, collapsible steering and side intrusion beam, seat belt reminder, front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, speed-sensing door lock, impact sensing door unlock, panic braking signal, Electronic Stability Program with Dynamic Steering Torque, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Roll-over Mitigation, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX child seat with top tether mounts.

Engine:

The Tata Nexon is powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine that produces 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual transmission and an option of a 6-speed AMT gearbox. The second option is a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre turbocharged Revotorq diesel engine that produces 110 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque available in a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed AMT transmission.

The Mahindra XUV300 is powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 110 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox XUV300 also comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 117 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT.

Features:

The Tata Nexon comes with highlights such as a coupe-inspired design, Tri-Arrow design on the grille, dual-barrel headlamps with LED DRLs, piano black ORVMs, LED combination tail lamps, three-tone interior finish, electric sunroof, Tri-Arrow seat upholestery, a large central console, digital instruments console, connected car safety features, voice navigation, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, cooled glovebox etc.

The Tata Nexon is priced starting INR 7.0 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi and goes upto INR 12.70 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Mahindra XUV300 is priced starting INR 7.95 lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi and goes upto INR 12.30 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.
