Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid pumps 261 HP and has 31 mile (50 km) EV range

Hyundai has introduced the Plug-In Hybrid version of the 2021 all-new Hyundai Tucson slated for launch in Spring of 2021 in the European market. The brand has also announced that with the addition of the Plug-in Hybrid engine, the SUV now offers the widest range of electrified powertrains in its portfolio. The all-new Tucson is now offered with mild hybrid, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options along with petrol and diesel powertrains, strengthening the company’s commitment towards electromobility.

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid variant will be powered by a Generation-3 1.6-litre T-GDi Smartstream petrol engine coupled to a 66.9 kW electric motor that turns out 304 Nm of torque coupled to a 13.8 kWh lithium-polymer battery. The plug-in hybrid motor delivers 265 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm maximum torque paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire technology and Hyundai HTRAC four-wheel drive technology and a Terrain Mode selector as standard, that enables the SUV to traverse over tough terrain with ease.

The all-new Plug-in Hybrid powertrain can propel the SUV solely by the electric motor when driving at low speeds without the consumption of fuel. The fully-electric mode can also be activated by the driver on demand allowing the vehicle to be powered by the electric motor for up to 50 km. The Tucson Plug-In Hybrid is equipped with a 7.2 kW onboard charger and can be charged at both an EV charging station or using a home wall box.

The all-new Tucson Plug-In Hybrid variant is also equipped with Active Air Flap technology that enables the SUV to adjust the air intake according to the cooling needs optimizing the thermodynamic efficiency and aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle, improving range when the car is driven on fully electric mode as well as minimising the air resistance reducing fuel consumption. The Hyundai Plug-In Hybrid version can also be equipped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) adaptive damping technology.

The all-new Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid comes with an underbody incorporated high voltage battery that maximises the interior space for both passengers and luggage. The new vehicle also features the new Parametric Hidden Lights design on the fascia, sharp lines and angles on the sides, trapezoidal wheel arches and new housing-less 10.25-inch digital instruments cluster along with 10.25-inch infotainment display with Hyundai Bluelink connected car features allowing users the check battery level and manage charging via the Hyundai app.
