Hyundai teases new Ioniq 9 luxury electric SUV

Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled a teaser for its highly anticipated Ioniq 9, a luxury all-electric SUV set to make its global debut in November 2024. The teaser showcases the Ioniq 9’s sleek design and hints at its spacious, three-row interior.

Design and Features

The Ioniq 9 is Hyundai’s first venture into the large electric SUV category, marking a significant milestone for the brand. The SUV features an elongated wheelbase and a single-curved roofline, inspired by the cozy interiors of boats. The design incorporates Hyundai’s signature Parametric Pixels in the headlamps and diagonal lines reminiscent of traditional Korean clothing, Hanbok.

Performance and Platform

Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s acclaimed Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Ioniq 9 promises a spacious and comfortable interior. The platform ensures a flat floor, providing ample headroom and legroom for all passengers, including those in the third row. The Ioniq 9 is expected to offer a range of over 500 kilometers on a single charge, catering to the needs of luxury SUV buyers. It could share the motor and battery configuration with the Kia EV9. 

Market and Milestones

Hyundai recently celebrated reaching 100 million units in global cumulative production, with the 100-million-and-first vehicle being an Ioniq 5. The launch of the Ioniq 9 coincides with Hyundai’s commitment to electrification, aiming to achieve sales of 2 million EVs by 2030. The company plans to expand its production facilities globally, including in key markets like Turkey, India, the United States, and the Czech Republic.

India Launch?

The Ioniq 9 will most definitely make its way to India. It sibling the, Kia EV9 is already on sale here. What remains to be seen is how Hyundai will price the Ioniq 9. We should see the car coming to India late 2025 or early 2026.
