One of the most popular product in the hatchback segment, the Santro has no future. Hyundai has no plans of reviving the nameplate anytime soon. Shortly after being discontinued from market, Hyundai has discontinued the Santro globally and has been replaced by the i10 & Eon. The Santro served 16 years for Hyundai in the Indian automotive scene and masses appreciated it for the low maintenance costs along with ample space for commuting.
In an interview to BusinessLine, Mr YK Koo, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motors India said that Hyundai has no plans for the ‘Santro’ brand revival any soon.
In December 2014, production of the Santro was official put to an end. The Hyundai Eon was launched before the discontinuation of the car, to replace it, but failed to bring in numbers which were expected.
In it’s tenure, multiple Santro variants were launched such as the Zip Drive, Zip Plus, Xing, etc.
