Hyundai produced 71,178 cars in December 2020, becomes India’s best SUV brand

Hyundai Motor India Limited has revealed via a press release that it sold 5,22,542 units for the calendar year 2020. For the month of December 2020, it registered about 47,400 units of sale in the domestic segment which is its highest-ever figure for the December month till now.

The top-selling products of HMIL were from the SUV segment; the all-new Creta and the Venue which were the top sellers in their respective segments. For the export sales, Hyundai Motors India Limited reported 12,182 units for the month of December 2019 and for December 2020, the brand reported 19,349 units which is about 58.84% of the increase. In total, i.e. for the both Domestic and Exports Hyundai Motors India Limited reported a total sale of 66,750 units of sale for December 2020 as compared to 50,135 units of sale in December 2019 which is about 33.14% increase.

Creta has been selling in good numbers and consistently made into the top 10 selling cars list. The new generation Creta has 5 powertrain options; a 115 HP 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. The turbo-petrol is available only with an automatic gearbox whereas the other two are offered with both manual and diesel. As far the equipment list is concerned Hyundai cars have always been known for that and the Creta is no other. It gets automatic headlights, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, powered driver seat, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, Bose audio system, electronic parking brake and a big full panoramic sunroof. The Hyundai Creta is priced from INR 9.82 lakhs and goes all the way to INR 17.33 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The newly launched i20 is also getting a very good response from the market. It comes with three engine options, 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo petrol. Though the i20 now comes at a premium pricing, and this has not stopped potential customers from buying one. Hyundai i20 prices start at INR 6.80 lakh for the base trim and go up to INR 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec. Hyundai is increasingly spreading its reach to more and more cities in India and its sister company, Kia Motors is also selling is great numbers. However, the South Korea company has to go a long way to be the top-selling manufacturer of the country by dethroning Maruti Suzuki.
