Hyundai Motor Corporation is set to introduce its premium luxury brand, Genesis, in India. The launch is expected to take place in the second half of 2025.
With the Indian luxury car market on the verge of reaching new heights, Hyundai’s decision to bring Genesis to India is a strategic move and it also make sense. The South Korean automaker has reportedly established a dedicated team to plan the market launch of the Genesis brand in India.
The Genesis brand’s primary focus in India will be on SUVs. The company is currently defining its go-to-market strategy and is considering the launch of the GV70, GV80, and GV90 SUVs2. The GV90 is yet to be launched globally2.
The models are expected to be introduced as Completely Built Units (CBUs) in the first phase. Following this, the SUVs will likely be assembled at Hyundai’s factory in Sriperumbudur, on the outskirts of Chennai.
The Genesis GV70, a direct rival to the BMW X4, Mercedes GLC and the Audi Q5, has been around since 2020 and recently received a mid-life update. It comes with multiple petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrain options.
The GV80, another popular Genesis SUV, debuted in 2020 and also received a mid-life update recently. The GV80 is a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5.
Hyundai also introduced an SUV-coupe based on the GV80 called the GV80 Coupe that features a tapered roofline for a sportier appearance. The brand also has the Genesis GV60 e-SUV that competes with the likes of the BMW iX1 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge overseas.
The GV90 SUV, which is yet to be revealed in production form, could make it to India at a later stage. This new SUV was recently previewed as a concept and is expected to be a potential rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLS and even the GLS Maybach in the future.
