Hyundai Kona EV will get 452 km driving range in India, certified by ARAI

South Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai has slated the introduction of its Kona electric SUV for tomorrow in India and the brand has claimed that the electric SUV comes with a high range of 452 km on a single charge making the Kona electric India’s first all-electric SUV with the highest driving range.

The production-ready Kona electric has been spotted in the country during road tests and the Indian-spec SUV is expected to come in the base and mid-spec variants with the car is likely to be brought in the country via the CKD (completely knocked down) route to keep the costs in check.

Powering the Kona is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor expected to deliver a power output equivalent of 139 PS and the motor is connected to a 39 kWh battery or an option of a more powerful 204 PS motor paired to a 64 kWh battery, the latter is expected to come to India pertaining to the company’s long-range claim as the former is rated to deliver around 288 km on a single charge. The Kona electric is likely to come with a front-wheel-drive train and the all-electric SUV will have an automatic transmission. 

The Kona electric is expected to come packed with a lot of features like touch screen infotainment system, LED headlights, LED taillights and bold muscular looks. The SUV will also come with a charge anywhere feature details of which are likely to be available on its Indian debut planned for 9th July 2019.

The Hyundai Kona is expected to be priced around INR 25 lakhs and the company expects to sell around 500 units of the all-electric SUV in a year. To further reduce the range anxiety, commonly associated with first time EV buyers, the brand is likely to install quick charging stations at their dealerships and also provide the car with a convenient home charger.
