Hyundai has made clear that they will launch the Kona electric SUV in India. While the launch is expected sometime in 2019, the Kona electric SUV has begun road tests in India. This will be the first all-electric product from Hyundai, and the Kona is now testing waters how it will function on Indian soil. The Kona is already on sale in markets abroad.
The Kona will be brought to India via the CBU route, so is surely going to be an expensive car. Hyundai will use this as their halo car to showcase their technology in the EV world.
Powering the Hyundai Kona will be an all-electric engine, no petrol+hybrid electric setup. This 39.2 kWh lithium-ion batter will help the Kona deliver close to 312 km of driving range in a single charge, and that’s quite respectable. The batteries on the Kona will produce 132 BHP of power and 395 Nm of torque. The Kona will have a top whack of 155 kmph and sprint from 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds.
The Kona sports LED headlamps and DRLs, LED tail lamps, sporty bumpers, roof rails, cascade grille, integrated spoiler, 17″ rims, and almost everything that you might expect. Hyundai will most definitely equip the Kona with the best of features even on the inside.
The big question remains, how much it would finally cost on-road, and how many buyers it will find.
