Hyundai ix25 compact SUV spotted testing

Now that Hyundai has launched the Elite i20 in India, the company is readying its compact SUV ix25 for the Indian market. The ix25 was spotted testing in Tamil Nadu wearing heavy camouflage and was driven around with the chief competitors – Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.

The Hyundai ix25 is expected to take design cues from the bigger Santa Fe. The car was first revealed during the Beijing Motor Show and will officially launch in China sometime in October. Indian launch for the compact SUV is expected to be in the first half of 2015. Expect pricing to be in the range of Rs. 7.5 lakh – Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Test mules reveal that the height of the ix25 is in the same league as the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster. The photographer mentioned that the car was running on 17″ rims. Also noticeable are the chunky roof rails painted in silver. There seems to be two reflectors on either side of the rear bumper. It doesn’t look like Hyundai is going to mount the spare wheel on the tail gate just to make it pose like an SUV. Window sills are running higher towards the rear side.

The ix25 shares its platform with the recently launched i20, hence, high levels of parts sharing is expected. The SUV measures 4,270mm in length, 1,780mm in width and 1,630mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,590mm. Power units are expected to be the 1.4L & 1.6L petrol and diesel. We cannot say anything about a 4WD option making it to the Indian streets. This will be the first time Hyundai will enter the compact SUV segment in India.

Now that the ix25 has been spotted testing, expect new images and reports to do the rounds frequently.
