Hyundai i20 diesel discontinued in India

With the BS6 2.0 emission norms kicking in. We are witnessing significant changes in the carmaker. One such headline is from the house of Hyundai India.

Hyundai i20 Misses Out On Diesel Engine

For MY2023, Hyundai has updated the i20 lineup as per the upcoming emission norms. In terms of sales figures, Baleno has always been on the top in the premium hatchback segment. Hyundai i20 has a lot of catching up to do as its sales figure is almost half of Baleno’s number. To further add to the woes, the 2023 Hyundai i20 N Line Homologated Diesel powertrain has been discontinued. Now we will only get a NA petrol and a turbo-petrol option.

We understand Diesel is not very popular in the premium hatchback segment. This is also the reason for the declining sales volume. Customers these days are more than happy with petrol and turbo petrol powertrains. Noteworthy to mention, Tata Altroz has retained the diesel engine option with the 2023 update. This makes Altroz, the only diesel premium hatchback option.

Then we have the 1.0L GDi. With this engine, there are two gearbox option choices, namely, iMT and DCT variants. Both get similar performance figures of 118.4 BHP of power and 172 Nm of torque. This 998cc 3-cylinder engine is not available with a manual transmission.
