Hyundai Exter is better than rivals, here’s why

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Hyundai launched the Exter SUV in the Indian market in July 2023. The Exter comes with a lucrative price tag that starts at just INR 6,12,800 ex-showroom. Positioned in the compact SUV segment the Exter is not only an exciting car, but also reverberates with the Gen MZ customers. So, here’s why the Hyundai Exter is better than its rivals.

Why Choose the Hyundai Exter Over Rivals?

In India buying an automobile is a family affair. Therefore, the Exter not only maintains a good balance between a sporty and engaging design, but also comes with spacious and comfortable interiors, as well as reliability and safety. Thanks to these all round attributes, the Hyundai Exter is not only popular among youngsters, but also resounds well with mature buyers.

To make the Exter a well-rounded product, Hyundai employed its ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language on the SUV. The Exter therefore comes with a modern front-end with H-shaped LED DRLs, a butch and robust side profile and a sporty rear design. The Sensuous Sportiness design is not only exciting for the new-generation buyer, but family members will also love the Exter thanks to segment best wheelbase, which translates into spacious interiors.

What About the Engine Performance?

While its direct competitor uses a 3-cylinder engine, Hyundai offers the Exter with a 4-cylinder motor. But does that extra cylinder come with a heavy price tag. Well, the Hyundai Exter is actually at par, if not more affordable, than its competitor. And you just don’t get an extra cylinder on the engine, the extra cylinder also brings in more refinement. The 4-cylinder motor cancels out engine vibrations, so you get a smoother drive, be it in the city or on the highway.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine comes in two options. An E20 compliant gasoline blend fuel ready option which produces 83 PS of power and 113.8 Nm of torque and a CNG Bi-Fuel version which makes 69 PS of power and 95.2 Nm of torque. The petrol motor comes with a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox while the CNG variant only comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

But Does The Exter Have Any Good Features Compared to Competition?

Hyundai offers the Exter with so many features that we could go on and on about them for hours. But here are some segment best and segment first features that you should look out for and that’s how the Exter beats its competition.

Segment First Features

The Hyundai Exter comes with segment first features such as Smart Electric Sunroof which by the way is also Voice Enabled and can be controlled with embedded voice commands in English and Hinglish languages. The SUV also comes with a dynamic looking rear spoiler and a shark fin antenna which are both segment first features.

In addition to this, the Exter also comes with metal pedals and footwell lighting, again a segment first. Segment First Features list also includes paddle shifters, wireless smartphone charging, rear AC vents with power outlet, multi language UI support, on-board navigation system and 7 personalized ambient sounds of nature to help you relax while driving.

The Exter also comes with 6-airbags as standard and first-in-segment safety features such as electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill assist control, 3-point seatbelts on all seats and seat belt reminder on all seats.

Segment Best Features and Ergonomics

When you plan to buy the Hyundai Exter for your family, you would definitely want your elders to be able to have an easy ingress and egress. Thanks to its best-in-segment long wheelbase design, the Exter is not only spacious on its interiors but also offers a relaxed seating position with superior knee room and legroom.

The car also comes with ample headroom in the back seat. The large DLO section also offers increased daylight entry and all-round visibility reducing any claustrophobic tendencies. The Exter also gets automatic climate control AC with 15 embedded Hinglish voice commands such as “AC on kardo” (Air conditioning ON), “AC band kar do”, “Fan speed badha do”(Fan high), ”Fan speed kam kar do” (Fan low) and more.

So if you are looking for that perfect family car which can also be used for daily commutes as well as your weekend trips, ‘Think Outside, Think Exter”.
