The Maruti Suzuki Swift has evolved into a sporty yet safe and futuristic yet comfortable hatchback in the Indian market. The brand launched the Swift in India back in 2005. Since then, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer has upgraded the Swift through four generations.

Stronger, Lighter Materials

Recently, the 4th-generation Swift was launched in the Indian market with a starting price of INR 6.49 lakh ex-showroom. The Swift in its 4th generations avatar not only comes with updated looks but also gets a new more efficient Z-series engine. However, that’s not all, the brand has also utilised Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) on the new Swift. This not only makes the car stronger but also lighter.

So how light is the new Swift? Well, reports reveal that the 2024 Swift is around 100 kgs lighter than the 1st generation model. The brand has managed to shave off a whopping 100 kgs from the swift when compared to when it was launched back in 2005. Reports reveal that this is thanks to the use of the advanced steel on the chassis as well as the downsizing of the engine.

More Efficiency, Less Emissions

The lighter new Swift also offers more benefits. The car is now more fuel efficient than ever. The 2024 new Swift claims a mileage of upto 25.75 kmpl. Now compare this to the 2005 model Swift which used to return upto 12.36 kmpl. More mileage not only means saving money but also the environment.

The 2024 Swift is also produces almost 47% less carbon emissions than the 1st generation model. The first generation model used to produce 147 grams of CO2 per km. The new model, emits 95.6 grams per km. This has also been achieved thanks to the use of alternative materials and advancement in technology due to the shift towards electrification which has compelled manufactures to innovate new technologies for vehicle production.
