Hyundai Creta EV is coming soon, reveal likely in January 2025

Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to unveil the electric version of the Hyundai Creta in January 2025. The highly-anticipated Creta EV is set to be Hyundai’s first high-volume electric vehicle (EV) in the Indian market.

Key Details

The Creta EV will be produced at Hyundai’s Chennai plant, with production expected to commence by the end of 2024. The electric SUV will share many design elements with its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart but will feature subtle styling tweaks, such as a closed-off grille and aero-optimized alloy wheels.

Creta EV Power and Performance

Hyundai’s new EV will be powered by a front-mounted electric motor, producing around 138 horsepower (hp) and 255 Nm of torque. The motor will be paired with a 45 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of approximately 500 kilometers on a single charge. This range is expected to make the Creta EV a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

Features and Technology

It will come equipped with a host of advanced features, including a TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, and navigation. It will also feature dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Additionally, the SUV will include Hyundai’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with features like a 360-degree surround camera and adaptive cruise control.

Creta EV Market Positioning

The new SUV is expected to be priced between INR 20 lakh and INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it competitively against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV400, and MG ZS EV. Hyundai aims to capture a significant share of the growing EV market in India with the launch of the Creta EV.

With the upcoming launch of the Creta EV, Hyundai is set to make a strong entry into the electric vehicle market in India. This will be Hyundai’s first EV in India, derived from an ICE platform. Besides the Creta, Hyundai has the IONIQ 5 which has been received well by consumers. The Kona EV was discontinued a while back and is awaiting an update. With only one EV product on the portfolio, the Creta EV could be a key product for Hyundai in the EV space.
