Hyundai is planning to launch a new electric SUV to expand its portfolio. Rumours in the past suggest that the brand plans to introduce the Creta SUV in an all-electric avatar. Spy shots of test mules also reinforced the rumour as the Creta EV does goes through road tests.
Now, new images of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV have emerged on the internet. However, these spy shots are from India. This further leads us to believe that the Korean manufacturer could be planning to introduce the Creta EV soon in the Indian market.
Recently, Hyundai launched the 2024 Creta facelift which came with a lot of updates inside-out. The new Creta EV is also likely to be based on the Creta Facelift. But, the all-electric Creta is likely to come with EV specific exteriors changes as well as interior equipment.
For example, the alloy wheels on the Creta EV is likely to come with aerodynamic air curtains and low resistance tyres that enhance the battery range. Other changes may include a closed-off front grille and front charging port similar to the Hyundai Kona Electric. Media reports also suggest that, on the inside, the Creta EV is likely to come with interior equipment similar to the Hyundai IONIQ 5.
Powering the Hyundai Creta EV is likely to be a 45 kWh battery pack from LG Chem. The company is the OEM for Hyundai electric vehicles. The electric motor on the Creta EV is likely to be from the latest generation entry-level Hyundai Kona Electric. The electric motor produces 138 Hp of power and 255 Nm of torque.
When launched in India, the Hyundai Creta EV is likely to compete with the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX. Both these come with a ~50 kWh battery pack and 48 to 60 kWh battery pack, respectively. However, the Creta EV is likely to have a slight advantage on its third rival the Tata Nexon EV which comes with a 40.5 kWh battery in the long range model. Expect the Creta EV to come with a 250 km range on a single charge.
More details on the Hyundai Creta EV are likely to emerge soon, so stay tuned.
