Hyundai Casper will get TWO 1.0L engines

Casper is the latest Hyundai that will make its way onto the Indian roads. This micro-SUV has been spotted testing on multiple occasions. And it looks almost certain to hit the roads. As per reports, the car will first go on sale in Korea, followed by India and other emerging markets. Now, the latest update about the car is its engine options. Reports are suggesting that Casper in Korea will get two 1.0-litre engine options. Hyundai had earlier released a teaser suggesting that the vehicle will go into production from September.

Engine and Powertrain

Earlier, there were rumours that the Casper will come with two engine options. As per reports in Korea, it looks almost certain that a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbo GDI petrol engine will do the duty in the Casper. The naturally aspirated petrol motor will produce close to 76 BHP. Meanwhile, the 1.0-litre TGDI motor borrowed from the Venue will produce 100 BHP. Both the engine options will get a four-speed automatic gearbox alongside a manual option.

In India, there have been no official announcements regarding the specifications of the car. Hyundai might reserve the 1.0-litre TGDI motor for the higher trims of Casper. But, for the lower trims, Hyundai has two options, the 1.2-litre and 1.1-litre naturally aspirated petrol motors that are currently available with Santro and Grand i10 Nios, respectively.

More Details

Hyundai already has the Venue in the compact SUV segment, and thus the Casper will be even smaller. The car gets the K1 compact underpinnings, the one used in Grand i10 Nios and Santro. Spy shots of the vehicle suggest few details. The most notable ones are circular LED headlamps with DRLs, triangular inserts in the tail lamp, and an overall boxy silhouette with a matured SUV-like stance. Once launched, the Casper will go head to head with Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the upcoming Tata HBX and likes. With the growing popularity of SUVs in the market, Casper could be the answer for customers looking for an SUV-like car at a much affordable price range.
