Hyundai cars with CNG twin-cylinder kit coming soon, ‘Hy-CNG DUO’ variants

Hyundai is planning to launch new twin-cylinder CNG kit on its cars in the Indian market soon. According to reports, the brand is currently road testing the new technology in India. Furthermore, the brand has also filed for patents at the Indian Intellectual Property office. The patents reveal a new Hy-CNG DUO name, which leads us to believe that the brand is likely to introduce the new twin-cylinder CNG kit. Currently, Hyundai offers CNG bi-fuel variants from the factory on the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Exter and Aura cars. The new technology is likely to be offered on these cars and make the technology safer as well as mainstream.

Hyundai Testing Hy-CNG DUO – Spyshots

A test mule kitted with emissions testing equipment has also been spotted doing rounds around Pune. This leads us to believe that the brand is in the process of homologating the new technology at the ARAI. However, details about the CNG storage capacity and the safety features that the new CNG kit will offer is still unknown. But the Hyundai brand has always been synonymous with safety and is likely to offer features such as thermal cut-off and some electronic safety tech that disconnects the CNG tank in case of a leak. The CNG fuel filler is also likely to come with safety tech to prevent mishaps while refuelling.

Competition to Tata iCNG?

Currently, Tata Motors offers its iCNG cars with a similar twin-cylinder technology. The Tata cars with iCNG come with features such as a Fuel Lid Micro Switch with Auto Ignition Cut-Off, Thermal Incident Protection, Leak Detection Feature, Load Floor Protected Valves & Pipes, a Special Nozzle to Cut-Off Gas Supply and Release CNG Gas in Case of a Thermal Incident most of which are industry first.
