According to a media report, Hyundai has said that it is working on making its portfolio in India – unique. The Korean carmaker is aiming to Indianise both the insides as well as the outsides. For this, the designers at Hyundai will borrow elements from India’s rich architecture, art and craft.
While this move seems as a way to charm Indian customers, it reaffirms the fact that the Indian market is important for the Korean carmaker. Minchul Koo, VP of Design at Hyundai Motor Company, said that the company has great respect for India’s heritage and history. The design team is fascinated as well as impressed with the creativity as well as the variety in India.
At present, the company is working on an electric SUV for India. This large SUV is said to be rugged and functional. The company has also realised that one style doesn’t fit all. Hence Hyundai wants to offer bespoke solutions for customers with different tastes.
It is too early to speculate, but it is anyone’s guess as to how the next-generation Hyundai cars would look. However, the Hyundai designers are currently in the process of looking for inspiration. This is not the first time Hyundai has experimented with local culture and history. Back when Eon was launched, the car’s centre console was inspired by Ganesh.
Luxury carmaker Lexus is known to incorporate Japanese inspired art and elements in their cars. For example, details like Japanese motifs, Japanese silk, origami and the Katana sword are used many times in luxury cars.
Skoda, a Czech company, uses crystal design elements in the headlamps of its cars. These celebrate the Czech Republic’s heritage of crystals.
