Hyundai AX1 micro SUV / crossover continues testing abroad

Hyundai is extensively testing the AX1 (codenamed), a crossover micro SUV in the home market and new images of the test mules have emerged on the internet. Spyshots show two Hyundai AX1 test mule along with what appears to be a camouflaged Hyundai Creta SUV. The new images show more details on the AX1 micro SUV that leads us to believe that the car is now close to its series production.

The Hyundai AX1 features a design language that draws inspiration from the Hyundai Venue SUV but the car is almost the size of a Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The front fascia appears to have an LED DRL on top close to the bonnet line and a headlamp mounted on the bumper of the micro SUV. The radiator grille features a silver finished trough mesh and speculations are that it will come in the classic Hyundai style and will be similar to the Venue in terms of shape. The micro SUV comes with features such as roof rails and body cladding reiterating its SUV status. The bonnet appears to be a clamshell-style unit with a compact engine bay and the car comes with a unique design on its dual-tone alloy wheels.

Features

The Hyundai AX1 is likely to come with features such as climate control AC, digital instruments, control mounted steering, touchscreen infotainment system, Airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pretensioners as standard and rain sensors, automatic headlamps etc on higher-spec variants evident from the close up on the windscreen in one of the spyshots.

Powertrain

The Hyundai AX1 is likely to come with a 1.1-litre naturally-aspirated petrol motor and an optional 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. The engines are also likely to come with a manual as well as automatic gearbox options. Speculation is that the brand will also launch an electric powertrain version on the AX1 given the push for electrification going around the world, but no official word from the manufacturer yet.
