Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai launched the Alcazar SUV for the Indian market on June 18th, 2021. Based on the Creta, the Alcazar features seven seats instead of five and shares the same platform as Kia’s Seltos. Hyundai currently offers the Alcazar in 6 or 7-seater options with three variants – Prestige, Signature, and the top-spec Platinum.
Although, based on recent media reports, Hyundai has decided to discontinue the base Prestige 6-seater petrol variants of the Alcazar. According to sources, Hyundai undertook this decision due to the lack of demand for the variants itself in the Indian market. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s official website currently lists both 6-seater petrol variants suggesting the authenticity of the report.
Hyundai has priced the base 6-seater Prestige trim at INR 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the top-spec 6-seater Signature variant costs INR 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). At the front, the Alcazar features a brand new chrome-studded grille with the same triple-LED projector headlamps as the Creta. Hyundai has also added a distinctive character line running across the sides of the Alcazar.
Along with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, the Alcazar features lowered fog lamps, a silver bumper skid plate, and roof rails. Additionally, the SUV sports 18-inch, dual-tone, diamond-cut alloy wheels along with blacked-out C-pillars and new LED taillights. Hyundai offers the Alcazar in 5 colour options – Phantom Black, Starry Night, Titan Grey, Taiga Brown, and Typhoon Silver.
Hyundai offers the Alcazar with two engine options, namely, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol, and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. The former produces 159 PS of power and 191 Nm of torque, whereas the latter produces 115 PS and 250 Nm. Hyundai also pairs both engines with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox with an optimized Final Gear Ratio (FGR).
Along with extended highway cruising capability, the automatic also sports a triple cone synchro and TGS (Transmission Gear Shift). These attributes and technologies within the automatic gearbox allow for smoother gear shifts to enhance driving efficiency. The Alcazar also sports Comfort, Eco, and Sport modes along with traction control modes- Snow, Sand, and Mud.
Hyundai has ensured to pack the Alcazar SUV with loads of convenient features for the driver and passengers. These include an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, 64-color ambient lighting, and a voice-enabled panoramic sunroof.
