Bajaj Auto has today officially announced the launch of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 motorcycles in India. Both these bikes will be sold via the existing KTM showrooms and have an introductory price tag of INR 1.80 lakh. While the KTM 250 Duke on which these Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 are based upon is priced at INR 2,00,576, it is interesting to note that the Husqvarna models are cheaper. This should surely attract more attention towards this versatile 250cc engine. Bookings are now open and the bikes will be available in 100 showrooms across 45 cities starting from March 2020.
Both, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 are unique in styling with minimalist treatment. There is no such motorcycle on sale in the 250cc category which offers a cafe racer appeal like the Vitpilen 250 and a scrambler styling like the Svartpilen 250. The bikes were first revealed to the Indian audience at the India Bike Week in Goa, in December 2019. This is also the world debut of the 250cc Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen models.
Powering the motorcycles, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 is a 248.76cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, BS6 compliant motor producing 30 PS of power @ 9000 RPM and 24 Nm of torque @ 7500 RPM matched to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper-assist clutch. The bike rides on a steel trellis chassis which is black powder coated and has a 43mm USD front fork with a rear monoshock; both built by WP. The Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 comes with dual-channel ABS as standard and gets a 320mm front disc with a 230mm rear disc brake.
In terms of dimensions, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 motorcycles have a ground clearance of 145mm, 9.5L fuel tank capacity, seat height of 835mm, 17″ alloy wheels, 154 kg kerb weight for the Svartpilen 250 and 153 kg kerb weight for Vitpilen 250.
It will be interesting to see how the market responds to the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 in comparison to the recently updated KTM 250 Duke. All these 3 motorcycles share the mechanical parts, but the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 & Vitpilen 250 have a very different styling and character.
