The Husqvarna Svartpilen 250, a street bike known for its unique blend of modern technology and classic design, has been the subject of much speculation in India’s motorcycling community. The question on everyone’s mind is whether this quarter-litre, scrambler-styled motorcycle will be available for purchase in India, or if it will only be manufactured here for export.
Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 – Current Status in India
The Svartpilen 250 is currently available at a starting price of INR 2,25,000. It is powered by a 248.76 cc BS6 engine and has a user-reported mileage of 30 kmpl. The bike comes with an anti-locking braking system and both front and rear disc brakes. The Svartpilen 250 shares its underpinnings and engine with the KTM 250 Duke. Production is being carried out at Bajaj’s facility in Chakan. The Svartpilen is a unique amalgamation of a retro scrambler and a modern street bike in terms of design.
The reason for doubt is that Bajaj Auto showcased only the Vitpilen 250 alongside the Svartpilen 401 which we rode last month. There was no indication that the Svartpile 250 is under development or if it will be launched.
However, Recent reports suggest that the Svartpilen 250 has been homologated in India and will likely be launched in the coming weeks. The expected price is INR 2,19,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is the same as the Vitpilen 250. Bajaj Auto would not have gone through the homologation process if they did not plan to sell it in India. Hence, we can conclude that the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 will indeed be coming to India, and not just for export. Once launched, the Svartpilen 250 will compete with the KTM 250 Duke, Dominar 250, and Suzuki Gixxer 250.
