Husqvarna 401 spotted testing in India with new KTM Duke

Written by Kanad Kalasur

A while back, we had spotted the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 testing in its revised form. Now, the bike has been spotted testing alongside the new KTM 390 Duke.

What’s new in the updated Svartpilen 401?

The major updates to the bike include the new engine. Husqvarna will use the new engine that will be used on the next-generation KTM 390 Duke as well. In terms of capacity, the engine now displaces 398cc compared to 373cc. Due to this, a bump in the power and torque numbers is also expected.

Other changes on the bike could include new chassis, light weight alloys and an offset monoshock on the back. There is now the disc brake on the right side compared to the earlier left. Similar setup can be seen on the Triumph Speed 400.

Further, the bodywork of the bike is new as well. While the fuel tank area is pretty similar, the side appendages are bigger – they now come out and are stretched to the front of the bike. The tail of the bike is also updated. It appears to be increased to fit in a longer single-piece seat. This could offer higher comfort and practicality. The seat area for the pillion is hence larger than before. There is also a bigger grab rail for the pillion.

We can also see spree guard, which is a legal requirement for all two-wheelers in India. Not to mention, the bike has road-based Metzeler tyres.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 ready for launch?

As per the test images, the bike appears in a production ready guise. Hence, we can expect this to be launched pretty soon after the new KTM 390 Duke launch. Like the Husqvarna 250, the Svartpilen 401 will be priced lower than the KTM. While the outgoing Svartpilen/Vitpilen 401s were not sold here, it looks like the bike maker wants to enter this segment as well.
