The Hyundai Grand i10 is a very popular hatchback in India. And it deserves to be, with frugal engines and loaded to the gills with features, it can put cars from a segment above to shame. But what will it score when it goes through a crash test?
The i10 has received a 4-star crash rating by Euro NCAP. The i10 scores 79% in adult safety, 80% in child safety, 71% in pedestrian safety and 56% is safety assist. But this is with safety features being added as standard in that side of the world.
The Grand i10 sold in India is slightly different though. The car is 100mm longer in length and has a 40mm longer wheelbase here in India. Also, safety features such as ABS and airbags are not offered as standard.
Will be interesting to see how the popular Korean hatchback fares in the crash test, given that it manages to sell over 6,000 units consistently.
The Indian government is already working on new crash test norms for India, which will be set at a front impact test at 56 kmph. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced that all new cars in India will have to undergo frontal crash tests from October 2015
