After the Vario 160 and the ADV350, Honda has now registered the design patent for an electric scooter. The electric scooter in question is the Honda U-go that is already on sale in the Japanese market. Back in 2021, Honda also registered design patents for the PCX electric scooter.
The electric scooter market is rapidly growing in India. In fact, Yamaha is also considering the Neo e-scooter for the Indian market. Hence, Honda may also want to be a part of an emerging market in the country. However, even though the company has registered design patents in India, there is no confirmation if Honda will launch it in India.
Honda positions the U-go as an affordable urban electric scooter in international markets. The U-go has a compact footprint that will help in navigating urban areas. The aesthetics of the scooter is minimalistic. The front apron of the scooter has a flat design. There’s also an LED headlight integrated into the apron. Meanwhile, the LED side turn indicators are positioned on the handlebar shroud.
On the side, the minimalistic theme continues. The rear footpegs are foldable and also sit flush with the fairing. At the back, the electric scooter gets a blacked-out look. The taillight is in a horizontal position and also gets a smoked look. An interesting design element is the number plate. The number plate is not fender-mounted, lending it a cleaner look.
As for the features, the U-go gets an LCD display for the instrument cluster. It also gets a USB charging port. As for storage, it gets a 26-litre boot.
Internationally, the U-go is available in two trim levels – 1.2 kW and 0.8 kW motor. The 1.2 kW motor has a top speed of 53 kmph. At the same time, the 0.8 kW motor has a top speed of 43 kmph. Both the motor options are hub-mounted. As for the battery, it uses a 1.44 kWh removable unit. The range of the U-go is 65 km. Additionally, it is also available with an additional battery pack. The secondary battery pack extends the range further to 130 km.
