According to a media report, the upcoming Honda SUV will be here in India by June 2023. This new Honda SUV will be a fresh breath of air for the Honda line-up and offer customers a good alternative amongst competition like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda-VW twins Kushaq and Taigun, and others.
The Honda SUV could range within 4.2-4.3 meters in length. The Japanese carmaker is going to use a new version of an existing platform for this SUV. This platform is currently being used in the Honda Amaze. That said, Honda has been quite secretive about this car.
Coming to the insides, we can expect this new SUV to come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Honda is also likely to offer the Honda Sensing ADAS suite of technology on this vehicle to distinguish it from rivals.
Since this car is based on the existing platform, it is likely that Honda could offer the existing range of engines. This could be the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine which is doing duty on the Honda City. Another option could also be the hybrid unit as well. One of the reasons for offering the hybrid is the lack of diesel option. The upcoming stricter BS6 phase 2 emission norms have all but ensured that Honda will no longer offer a diesel engine on its range of cars in India. The transmission options could be a 5-speed manual, a CVT and an e-drive transmission.
As reported earlier, Honda CEO Takuya Tsumura told the media that the Japanese carmaker plans to grow more than last year. Hence to manage demand, the daily quota of cars at the Tapukara Plant in Rajasthan will be increased to 660 vehicles from the earlier 540 units. This increase will occur from April 2023. This means that the Honda leadership expects this new SUV to bring in good numbers if nothing else.
