Honda working on electric Activa E for India?

Sources and Reports suggest that Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda is working on an electric version of the Activa for India. With the rapid growth of electric mobility throughout the country, it’s no surprise that OEMs wish to jump on the bandwagon. In a recent interview, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) commented that India might see a new EV product. With reports speculating that HMSI may introduce the product within the next financial year, the company continues to examine the market.

Expected Details and Rivals

In 2021, enthusiasts spotted Honda conducting an ARAI test with its Benly-e, B2B offering in the country. This has led to speculations that HSMI will likely introduce the Activa E as its first offering in India. The ICE-powered Activa has been the company’s best-selling scooter for over a decade bringing in great sales and overall success. Therefore, it only makes sense for HSMI to introduce an election version of the Activa to compete with established rivals.

Leading with speculations, Honda’s next electric two-wheeler may feature a swappable battery system inspired by several Indian EV start-ups. Similar to Revolt and Bounce’s existing battery-swap ecosystem, HMSI can inculcate a system that works out best for its customers. The incentives and subsidies introduced by central and state governments will also play a key role in lowering battery prices. Once HSMI does enter the EV space, it will compete against OEMs like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor Company.

Other News

Recently, HMSI announced that it would sell the H’ness CB350 and CB350RS bikes via CSD Stores as a mobility partner. By offering the bikes via Canteen Store Departments in India, Honda aims to cater to defence personnel and CSD beneficiaries. Honda stated that all eligible customers must visit the https://afd.csdindia.gov.in/ link to avail of the new offer.

Along with offering a convenient and hassle-free purchasing experience, customers can also choose their required dealer and favourite model. Once the dealer confirms the product’s availability, customers must upload their documents along with the dealer documents. As a final step in the process, customers must also provide a digital copy of the Local Supply Order (LSO).
