Honda is testing the ‘Benly e’ electric scooter in the Indian market. According to sources, the scooter was seen testing near ARAI. This leads to speculations that the brand might be planning to homologate the e-scooter for the Indian market. The e-scooter from the Japanese brand features a single seat for the rider and a flatbed on the rear to carry luggage. This leads us to believe that the brand is likely to focus on the commercial vehicle market with the Benly e.
Spy pictures also reveal that the Benly e is under load test as a luggage sack appears on the flatbed rear area. The e-commerce market is flourishing due to the lockdown and ease of use. This has lead to significant demand in the e-commerce delivery sector. Conscious brands are also opting for electric mobility solutions primarily in the last-mile delivery segment. Honda could be planning to target the e-commerce and e-mobility segment with the Benly e.
The utilitarian e-scooter features a 2.8 kW electric motor that churns out 13 Nm of torque. Higher spec models also come with a 4.2 kW electric motor that delivers 15 Nm of torque. The electric motors draw power from two Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) lithium-ion battery packs. The Honda MPP also power the PCX Electric.
Each user-removable and swappable 48 V battery delivers 20.8 Ah of capacity. The Honda Benly e comes in I and I Pro as well as II and II Pro variants. The higher-spec II and II Pro can also haul up to 60 kgs of load and go up an incline with a 12-degree gradient. The e-scooters are 87 km per charge at 30 km/h and 43 km on a single charge at 60 km/h on a flat road. The Honda Benly e measures 1,840mm in length, 780mm in width and 1,050mm in height.
