The all-new Honda City is now ready to welcome the Indian car buyer. The brand has started production of the 5th generation City sedan in India which is slated for a market debut in July 2020. The new Honda City will be manufactured at the Greater Noida production plant in Uttar Pradesh. Honda’s plant had resumed production operations from mid-June 2020 following all the safety protocol as per the guidelines to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.

The Honda City has been one of the most trusted sedans in our market since 1998 and the brand has so far managed to attract lakhs of car buyers over these years. All 4 generations of the City sedan have been on sale in India and the 4th generation model onwards, Honda also introduced a diesel engine option. The 4th gen Honda City was introduced in 2014 and now, 6 years later, the 5th generation all-new City sedan is set to rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, etc. So far, Honda has given a sneak peak at the new Honda City by sharing pictures and the car should reach dealerships in the coming weeks. A quick trip down memory lane, the 1st gen City was launched in January 1998, 2nd gen in November 2003, 3rd generation in September 2008 and 4th generation in January 2014 with total sales more than 8 lakh units so far.

The all-new 5th gen Honda City will come powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol motor and a turbocharged 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine as well. While the petrol block will get an optional CVT automatic, the diesel will only be sold with a manual gearbox. The petrol Honda City will produce 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque while the diesel model will produce 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines obviously will be BS6 compliant from the date of sale.

Honda has also revealed that the body structure of the new City has managed a 5-star crash test rating in the ASEAN NCAP. The new model will come with features such as Alexa remote connectivity, telematics control unit, full LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, full HD colour TFT cluster split with an analogue speedometer, lane watch camera, stability program, multiple airbags, touchscreen music system, sunroof, 16″ rims, etc.
