Honda has unveiled the NSX Type S, the final edition model of the hybrid performance car in the USA. The brand has announced that only 350 Honda NSX Type S units will be precision-crafted from the Performance Manufacturing Centre in Marysville, Ohio. The Honda Production plant in the USA was also responsible for rolling out the second-generation NSX since its launch in 2015. It is important to note that Honda retails the NSX under the Acura brand in the USA.
The Honda NSX Type S comes with new styling cues to optimise aerodynamic and thermodynamic efficiency. The new exteriors feature larger front intakes to optimise brake cooling and channel air around the car efficiently. The rear end also comes with a larger diffuser and spoiler to improve the downforce of the sportscar. The NSX Type S also comes with a carbon fibre roof as a standard to reduce the weight and improve the rigidity. The car also comes with Type S badges and a new matte silver exterior paint with gloss black badging.
The Honda NSX Type S comes with a dual-cockpit style cabin. The car features a multilayered dashboard with a wraparound effect and a raised bridge-like centre console. The Honda NSX Type S comes with satin chrome appliques on the centre and the dashboard fascia extending to the door pads. The Type S features a squircle steering wheel with carbon fibre accents and multiple controls. The seat upholstery features Alcantara with contrast red stitching. Also, the headliner comes with Alcantara, and the headrests and glovebox feature the Type S and NSX logo. The Honda NSX Type S gets a centrally-mounted touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control and analogue-digital instruments.
Powering the Honda NSX Type S is a 3.5-litre V6 electric hybrid engine. The engine produces 600 Hp of power and 667 Nm of torque. The standard NSX makes 573 Hp of power and 646 Nm of torque. Honda achieved the extra power and torque through a new turbocharger from the NSX GT3 racer, new injectors and new intercoolers. Honda also employs a new 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox tuned for quicker upshifts and aggressive downshifts. The brand has also optimised the battery capacity and output by 20% and 10%, respectively.
Honda will retail the NSX Type S at USD 171,495 MSRP, which is close to INR 1.27 crore. Out of the 350 units to be sold worldwide, Honda will sell 300 units in the USA.
